A Bit More About Localnik

A bit about Localnik, and why it started, from founder Zvi Band

I was a huge nerd in middle school and high school (still very much am). While most kids would be out knocking around the mall or playing sports, I was tinkering online, building computers, staying very pale inside. This was around the time that everyone was getting computers. Everyone had to check e-mail. So I was often called on by family, friend's parents, friend's parent's neighbors, and so on. Sometimes I'd get a thanks, maybe a free meal, but sometimes they gave me money. Hey, I was getting paid to do the stuff I was good at anyways! They would often say that having me come out was a lot cheaper than hiring some service technician.

As I got older, I realized that nothing had changed. People who needed help were always unsatisfied with the service they got from so-called professionals. At the same time, there are gauranteed to be people, within walking distance even, who are able to help. Who wouldn't mind making some extra money doing what you love? But, there was no way to organize the meetups.

So that's why I created Localnik. I want to empower the people who need help to get the best service they can at a fraction of the price of making an appointment and having a full-time person come out. And for the people who have a skill in demand, a way to make some extra cash in their spare time. I knew the people are out there. I just had to create a place where they can meet. It's simple. If you need help, go on to the site, say what you need done, and choose the best person for the job. If you want to make some extra money using your skills in your own area, go to the site, see what jobs need doing, and post an offer saying you can do the job, and how much you think it'd cost them.

But I didn't just create a place where those who need help and those who can help can meet. In order to "beat" the standard way of doing things, I wanted to make sure that people seeking help knew that the service they were getting was the best. So that's why, after a job is complete, both the person who requested the work and the person who did the work can post reviews of how the job went. When someone later on goes and posts a job, they will be able to see how all the bidders fared in previous jobs, and hire the best one.

Take a look around. I really hope you enjoy and get something out of using the application. If you ever have any suggestions, please drop me a line at zvi.band@localnik.com
